Jimmy Katches needs your help

October 8, 2010

For all of you Sacramento area locals, I found out yesterday about a way to make a practical, obvious difference in someone's life here. Even if you aren't local, you can donate (information below).

Jimmy Katches of Colfax is a friend of my family, I first met him through my little brother, Ryan, who went to Alaska with Jimmy to work with troubled youth for a few weeks. Jimmy has spent much of his time giving to other people, until Lyme Disease began to take over his ability to be active. I have pasted his story below from the page for an Oct 17 fundraiser for Jimmy. If you can't go, please consider donating - he could really use your help!

Jeremiah (Jimmy) Katches of Colfax is the husband of Kristy and father of two beautiful daughters, ages 1.5 and 6 years old. He is an American soldier who contacted Lyme Disease while in the army. In August of 2004, he was medically discharged. Since then, he has visited doctors and specialists paying out of pocket for tests and treatments. At the same time, with his health failing, he has been unable to work full time due to the disease. In 2005 the VA denied compensation for treatment. The VA denied him again in 2006. In December of 2007, the VA declared him 100 percent disabled due to Lyme Disease. And some compensation and treatment was provided for a short time. Later the diagnosis and treatment were denied. Since a year ago, Jimmy has not been able to work and during the past three months his condition has grown worse.

Four months ago, he could climb latters and walk without help. And now he is partially using a walker and a wheelchair. Jimmy and Kristy recently told their story on channel 40 news. There is help for him with an antibiotic and pump. It is costly. How can we help??

We can all help Jimmy by supporting this fundraiser with our donations and sponsorships.
